Àkura, the school management system initially developed for St. Joseph’s College, Colombo, Sri Lanka, was a collaboration of ideas by senior Virtusans Pragash Krishnamoorthy and Thushera Kawdawatta.
Rev. Fr. Sylvester Ranasinghe, the principal of St. Joseph’s College, was very resourceful in bringing together the Virtusa team, teachers and students who collaborated to develop an efficient school management system.
Àkura was installed at St. Joseph’s College on 8th December 2011. To meet the increasing demand, Àkura was released as a free, open source software enabling other schools to download and install Àkura at no cost.
Àkura was uploaded to SourceForge.net on 14th February 2012 making it available globally.
The Àkura team led by Charles Sudharshan Jayawardena (Project Manager), Manjula Fernando (Architect) and Ganga Abeyrathne (Tech-Lead) has been highly commended by both local and foreign users alike for a job well-done.
